SHN’s Regional Nephrology Program cares for more than 6,000 patients every year. It is one of 26 Regional Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) programs in Ontario and one of three regional CKD programs within the Central East Local Health Integration Network. The program provides conventional and nocturnal hemodialysis treatment types for patients, with hemodialysis units at our General and Centenary hospitals, as well as at three community satellite sites, offering a range of convenient option to our patients while also providing quality care.
Equipment: Sonosite Ultrasound Machine
Help our Nephrology team provide the best care possible for patients with a new Sonosite Ultrasound Machine. This point-of-care ultrasound machine represents a key instrumental technique in nephrology, which supports diagnostics and improves the ability to identify issues, potential therapies, and subsequent vascular monitoring. Ultrasound is very important when it comes to hemodialysis, mapping blood vessels and identifying suitable sites for needle insertion during biopsies, central catheter placement, balancing fluid volume, and a wide array of other treatments.
