I have been a participant in the Regional Cardiovascular Rehab Program for three months and I will be continuing until I "graduate" in July. Following completion of the program, I am planning to become a volunteer. At each weekly session, the exercise therapists are assisted by two volunteers who have both graduated from the program and can say they have "been there".
The rehab program operates at 16 sites east of Toronto providing education, exercise testing, classes, counseling and other services.
The rehab program not only helps us regain our level of heart health following a heart attack but it also helps participants avoid the risk factors and reduce the chances of another cardiac incident. I was very lucky in that no damage was done to my heart when I suffered a minor heart attack on Nov. 16, 2018. I feel I've been given a second chance and I am totally committed to doing everything I can to ensure that I will not have another incident. I am now at the half way point and so far I have surpassed the expected goals.
On Saturday, May 4th, I will be participating in the annual Walk with Heart – and I need your help to make it a success!
The walk takes place at Scarborough Centenary Hospital where I underwent the angioplasty procedure in November 2018.
Thanks very much!
